Learning & 21st Century Skills

The video, Digital Media: New Learners of the 21st Century, showcased different programs and methods where students are learning in ways outside of the traditional classroom setting. The students are still able to learn the standard content required but they are doing in methods that develop skills necessary for the 21st century.

One program I found interesting was through the Mobile Learning Institute and the Smithsonian Institute.I enjoyed how much students learned through the program across different disciplines. They also had to study the artifacts and works showcased in the museum in order to succeed in their tasks.

In groups, students were asked to create a cellphone-based scavenger hunt for the museum. Students worked to build a story for their games in order to make it appealing for others. The groups worked together to collaborate on ideas and found new ways to engage players and themselves. They also had opportunities to play the games created by their peers and provide feedback on what worked and what would need improvement. This program was a great example that incorporated the 4Cs.
